The Israeli government has revealed counter-terrorism measures in response to two recent shootings by Palestinians in Jerusalem. As retaliation, they are pushing for the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and loosening restrictions on gun ownership for citizens.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and his far-right cabinet members are seeking to increase settlements and illegally annex the West Bank, home to many Palestinians. After the recent shooting, Netanyahu plans to fortify his settlement policy and has announced plans to discuss specific measures. Additionally, the process for obtaining guns will be streamlined and restrictions relaxed, allowing citizens to better protect themselves. The government also plans to revoke social security benefits from families of suspected terrorists and restrict their mobility. Netanyahu stated, "We will respond with force and swiftness. We will hurt those who seek to harm us."
On Sunday, 7 Jews were killed in a shooting near a synagogue in northern Jerusalem. In a separate incident near the Old City of Jerusalem, two Jews were injured in a shooting carried out by two Palestinian men.
